Njoodukani Community Boreholes: Clean Water for Every East African Village
Every time you shop on Njoodukani, order a meal, book a taxi, or invest through our platform — you are doing more than transacting. You are building clean water infrastructure across East Africa.
Njoodukani's Community Borehole Initiative commits 1 borehole for every 10,000 orders processed on the platform. We are not just a marketplace — we are a movement.
Why Boreholes?
Despite sitting at the heart of the Great Lakes region — home to 30% of Africa's freshwater — over 18 million Ugandans lack reliable access to clean drinking water. In rural areas of Karamoja, Acholi and parts of Western Uganda, women and children walk an average of 6 kilometres daily to collect water, much of it unsafe.
A single solar-powered borehole:
- Serves 300–500 people reliably for 25+ years
- Costs approximately $8,000–$12,000 installed
- Reduces waterborne disease by up to 70% in the surrounding community
- Gives women and girls back 4–6 hours per day previously spent fetching water
- Enables school attendance and economic productivity
Our Progress So Far
Since launching the initiative, Njoodukani and its community of users have collectively funded boreholes in:
- Kapchorwa District, Eastern Uganda (Sebei sub-region)
- Moroto District, Karamoja (serving Tepeth community)
- Rakai District, Central Uganda
- Kisumu County, Western Kenya (pilot expansion)
How You Can Help Directly
Beyond using Njoodukani's services, you can make a direct tax-deductible donation to our Borehole Fund. Donations of $500 or more receive a named plaque on a borehole and full GPS coordinates so you can see exactly where your generosity landed on Earth.
Corporate partners who contribute $10,000+ are featured on every Njoodukani platform screen as Community Champions, reaching millions of East African users monthly.
Good business and good deeds. On Njoodukani, they are the same thing.
